Lynk & Co Cyan Racing heads to the penultimate KUMHO FIA TCR World Tour round of 2024 at the Zhuzhou International Circuit in China, the home race of Lynk & Co, where the team will face a massive grid of 30 cars.
Lynk & Co Cyan Racing last raced in China in 2019, which saw the Swedish outfit claim two out of three victories. The team will again receive strong support on-site from employees and fans of Lynk & Co. China.
The round at Zhuzhou also means the home race of Ma Qing Hua, one of the few drivers in the championship with experience in the Chinese circuit.
“I’m thrilled to race at home and represent a Chinese brand in my home country. It will be exciting to race against all the top drivers in TCR China, which will add to the challenge this weekend. I know this circuit well, and we will try our best to extend our team championship lead and support Thed and Yann, who are in the drivers’ title fight,” said Ma Qing Hua.
Cyan Racing is currently leading the team championship standings by 33 points over Hyundai, while Thed Björk is third overall in the drivers’ championship, 29 points behind current leader Norbert Michelisz.
“It’s been too long of a break since our last race, and I’m more than ready to get back racing again, especially on the home grounds of Lynk & Co for the first time in five years. I’m carrying a good feeling from the previous races where we’ve claimed strong results, and I’m confident we can continue that run this weekend. I’ve driven the Zhuzhou circuit in the simulator, and I’m excited to put all of our preparations into action this weekend, which is crucial for the title fight,” said Thed Björk.
Double world champion Yann Ehrlacher is placed fourth in the standings, trailing his Swedish team-mate by 14 points.
“It’s good to be back racing in China again, and I expect a good race weekend with many fans on site. The track looks nice, quite like a European circuit. But it will be hot and humid, so we must adapt to that and race against 30 other drivers. We have had some retirements this season, and I’m trailing the lead by around 40 points. It’s still possible to win the title, and we will work hard together to maximise this,” said Yann Ehrlacher.
While it’s home ground for Ma Qing Hua, team-mate Santiago Urrutia will race on Chinese soil this weekend for the first time.
“It will be cool to race in front of all the fans in China, and the track looks like it will suit our car well, so I’m looking forward to this weekend. We will go for the big points and hope to celebrate with all of the Lynk & Co family at Zhuzhou,” said Santiago Urrutia.
The Chinese FIA TCR World Tour race weekend starts with practice on Friday, qualifying and Race 1 on Saturday, and finally, Race 2 on Sunday. Both races are broadcast live via the TCR TV streaming platform.
