Lola Cars Commits to GEN4 Era of Formula E

Today, Lola Cars (Lola) announced that it will compete in the ABB FIA Formula E World Championship for the GEN4 era, which runs until 2030.

The next-generation GEN4 technology will be introduced in season 13 (2026/2027). It boasts significant advancements in energy efficiency, race performance, and safety—the perfect opportunity for Lola to develop sustainable e-mobility-related technology further.

Mark Preston, Motorsport Director, Lola Cars Ltd, said: “We are excited to confirm our commitment to GEN4. Formula E is an ideal platform for powertrain and software development that we can use for broader motorsport and automotive applications.

While the complete technical details for the GEN4 era of the ABB FIA Formula E World Championship are still under development, the cars will feature 600kW of power and 700kW regenerative braking – a significant increase on the GEN3 era figures of 350kW and 600kW respectively.

Lola is synonymous with success in the sport and we are excited to see what they can now achieve in the pinnacle of electric single-seater racing.”

Lola’s Formula E project is the first of several planned to re-establish the British company as an industry leader in sustainable engineering and motorsport, strategically focusing on three areas: electrification, hydrogen, and sustainable fuels and materials.
