Coming from a positive showing in its home round at Imola, Lamborghini Iron Lynx will return on track this weekend at Spa-Francorchamps, entering the traditional 6 Hours of Spa FIA World Endurance Championship race.
With its 7-kilometre layout of high-speed corners and tricky elevation changes, the Belgian venue will welcome the #63 Lamborghini SC63 LMDh racecar for an iconic event. This event is usually a critical crossroads for the championship but also an essential step in preparing for the 24 Hours of Le Mans.
As always, a trio of Lamborghini Squadra Corse Factory drivers will share the cockpit of the team’s hypercar, with one notable addition. Due to clashing commitments for Edoardo Mortara, Andrea Caldarelli will join the full-time WEC pairing of Mirko Bortolotti and Daniil Kvyat.
The 34-year-old Italian, who is competing with the Lamborghini SC63 LMDh in IMSA and will be part of the two-car Le Mans programme, has a wealth of experience, including running with Bortolotti and Kvyat in LMP2 last year.
Bortolotti, Kvyat, and the whole team look forward to returning on track to continue the consistent progress showcased in FIA WEC. The Spa-Francorchamps circuit will again provide them with many variables, from the weather to the chance of Full Course Yellow or Safety Car situations. Execution will, therefore, be crucial.
The 6 Hours of Spa will be traditionally held on Saturday, with Practice starting one day earlier than usual on Thursday and Qualifying on Friday afternoon. The passionate local fans will have the chance to meet the drivers with two autograph sessions and are expected to provide excellent support in exchange for a spectacular race.
Emmanuel Esnault, Racing Director: “Spa-Francorchamps is a legendary circuit, but also a very tricky one from many points of view. Coming from a positive season start, we are aware of the challenges ahead of us this weekend, and we are looking forward to the weekend to continue the work we have done up to this point. The race is leading into the key preparation phase for Le Mans, and it will be helpful to perform well at the Spa to gain additional motivation and momentum. We will have Andrea with us ahead of the two-car effort in June.”
