Lynk & Co Cyan Racing heads to legendary Brazilian racing grounds this weekend as the 2024 KUMHO FIA World Tour hits mid-point at Autódromo de Interlagos.

The 4.3-kilometre circuit has held Formula 1 races since 1972 and will host the fourth FIA TCR World Tour round with the TCR South America championship, meaning a competitive grid of 29 cars.

Two-time world champion Yann Ehrlacher is second overall in the drivers’ standings, 22 points behind main title rival Norbert Michelisz. There are 75 points available from each race weekend.

“I’ve never raced at Interlagos, and I’m excited about it, especially after driving it in the simulator. I have 20 kilos of extra weight this weekend, but it will be a full push to score strong points as usual. It will be intense and interesting with the big grid as well. We are in a good position team-wise and driver-wise at the moment. But we need to improve further to be in the title fight after the final half of the season as well,” said Yann Ehrlacher.

Thed Björk heads to Brazil after two very strong races in the US, where he won one and held an impressive pace in both.

“The races at Mid-Ohio were the best for me in a long while, and that’s something I’m carrying right into this weekend. Interlagos is such a legendary circuit to race at, and that spurs me even further. It will be a challenge with such a big grid so that qualifying will be even more important than usual. But it’s a challenge that we are definitely ready for,” said Thed Björk.

Ma Qing Hua secured a podium finish in the final race at Mid-Ohio and is placed seventh, just ahead of team-mate Santiago Urrutia in the championship.

“We are in for an exciting weekend at an exciting circuit, that is for sure. We’ve had an okay start to the season with some ups and downs. We must be on top of our game and deliver as we hit the season’s midpoint. I think the final part of the season will be even more eventful, and the big South American grid will add further to that for sure,” said Ma Qing Hua.

“I haven’t raced at Interlagos before, but it is a track that I know very well from following Formula 1. I expect to fight at the front this weekend; the car is working really well, and I have no extra weight,” said Santiago Urrutia.

The teams’ championship fight is even closer than the drivers’, with Lynk & Co Cyan Racing trailing points leaders BRC Hyundai by just 20 points.

The Brazilian race weekend starts with practice and qualifying on Saturday, followed by two races on Sunday.
