I must be dreaming. Driving such a luxurious yet powerful vehicle as the Volvo V90 is a real dream, to say the least! And if this sounds too fantastic to be true, then I am one of the lucky ones enjoying the ultimate driving adventure of this amazing wagon.
A 3-day-long drive across the UAE is a real treat. As each day passes, the roads become increasingly entertaining. A few laps of the track make it clear that the engine of this car is smooth and refined and has proper, rock-steady push once the big turbo is spooled up. After 15 minutes or so, my conclusion is pretty straightforward: this is an awe-inspiring piece of engineering.
Over the past 20 years or so, there’s been a genuine lack of substitutes in the premium car space, and it seems that Volvo has taken this into consideration; thus the result has been reflected by the new V90 which is a great car (as is its saloon sister, the S90). This very car was born modern and arrive with the latest tech.
Also Worth Knowing
The V90 is changing the image of the Swedish brand into a genuine contender in the premium market, with sleek styling, plush interiors and an emphasis on comfort and safety.
Stepping inside the V90 and unleashing its enormous power, one can feel that this car is very stable at all times, and has plenty of grip for fast cornering.
The Exterior Lines
The V90 takes pride in its chic and dynamic exterior styling package which comprises a colour-matched front bumper spoiler, distinctively designed bottom sill mouldings with chrome insert, in addition to exceptional double end pipes and a colour-matched rear diffuser with chrome insert.
Thanks to an exclusive stainless-steel bumper cover, the bumper on V90 is always protected from scratches and scrapes when loading and unloading. Moreover, the bumper features a premium high gloss finish and has been particularly tailored to integrate with the other exclusive V90 exterior styling details.
The Interiors
Inside, there are lots of soft curves and fabulous materials, making the V90 a more comforting place to be than most of its contenders. There’s this big touchscreen, which is almost tablet-sized and controls the car’s primary functions. The V90 has a roomy light-filled cabin in which a tremendous amount of luxury and technology has been injected, to enhance the driving experience.
Volvo’s seats have oodles of modification on offer and backache isn’t an issue on a long trip, The seats, also, have very pronounced side bolsters.
It’s noteworthy; however, to mention that there’s a massive amount of legroom in the back, and plenty of head and elbow room all around. Also, there are some helpful cubbies and sizable door bins up front, in addition to a large glovebox.
Infotainment
CarPlay takes the functions and apps you’re familiar with from your iPhone and makes them conveniently available via your Volvo’s centre display. You can even use the Siri voice control function to take care of emails and SMS, which means your attention stays safely on the road ahead.
At the Center of the Performance
Premium Sound by Bowers & Wilkins brings outstanding realism to your favourite music, putting you at the centre of the performance.
Breathe Easy
With CleanZone, breathe air inside the car cleaner than the air outside. It filters particulates and odours, closing the air intakes if pollutant levels rise.
Safety
As standard, you get all the safety equipment you could wish for, including a sophisticated network of sensors that can detect when you’re about to crash and apply the brakes or when you’re about to run off the road and steer you back onto it, as well as a host of other equipment you’d usually have to pay extra for. These very specs, according to experts, make the V90 the safest car on planet.
An Expert’s View
The V90 looks far-fetched and, provided you are contented to prioritise comfort over fun, is a glee to drive. Even though the Mercedes E-class has a bigger boot and an even more striking interior, the V90’s keen pricing and ability to stand out from the crowd make it very tempting indeed. To sum it up, if you’re looking for an antithesis of the go-faster, aggressive, hyper-competitive executive world, it’s well worth trying the Swedish option.
