Mitsubishi has revived its performance name Ralliart for a performance-oriented SUV concept that will be one of seven models at the 2022 Tokyo Auto Salon.
Based on the second-generation Outlander, the muscular Vision Ralliart is one of two all-new concept vehicles to be revealed. It hints at how Mitsubishi will differentiate the performance-oriented Ralliart models from the standard ones, with bulky front and rear bumpers, a dominant grille, and a large rear diffuser that the company says is “reminiscent of a race car”.
The Vision Ralliart will be finished in matte black with a subtle blue undertone that becomes visible when the light hits it.
The company has already hinted at reviving the Ralliart name for factory-backed motorsport but has not yet confirmed which discipline it might compete.
“The Vision Ralliart Concept embodies Mitsubishi Motors’ vision for the new Ralliart and combines the company’s engineering skills and passion for monozukuri (craftsmanship) challenges,” the company said.
“The styling takes on a premium look with impressive on-road presence, and the ride comfort characteristic of Mitsubishi vehicles in varying weather and road conditions is further refined.”
The second-generation Outlander is the first new Mitsubishi model since the brand announced it would withdraw from the European market in 2020.
Mitsubishi will also unveil a new electric Kei-car concept in Tokyo, the K-EV Concept X, and five other special vehicles based on existing production models.
The standard Outlander will be presented in a new ‘Ralliart Style’ specification with white exterior paint, black alloy wheels, side decals, and mud flaps. The Outlander will also be seen in the unique Adventure Style specification, which features a camping kit and reinforced bumpers.
Versions of other models not previously sold in the UK will also be on display, including the Delica D:5 Tough x Tough, the Eclipse Cross Ralliart Style and the Minicab MiEV B-Leisure Style.
