Lynk & Co Cyan Racing will race in the USA for the first time ever this weekend as the KUMHO FIA TCR World Tour heads to Mid-Ohio for race weekend number three of 2024.
Santiago Urrutia heads to the US as the best-placed driver of the team in second place overall, trailing points leader Norbert Michelisz by just nine points.
“I’m very excited to return to the US as I’ve raced successfully there for several years in single-seaters. I’ve won many races at Mid-Ohio and hope we can keep delivering big points this weekend to keep pushing for the title race,” said Santiago Urrutia.
Yann Ehrlacher isn’t far behind in third place overall, trailing his team-mate by just four points after winning the first race of the previous race weekend in Morocco.
“We will carry some weight this weekend and start further back due to the engine change after Marrakech. But the feeling is still quite good, and the season is young. I’ve driven Mid-Ohio in the simulator, and it looks nice. I think it will suit our car quite well. It’s like the Hungaroring but with a bit more elevation change,” said Yann Ehrlacher.
Ma Qing Hua heads to Mid-Ohio as the most recent FIA TCR World Tour race winner, having scored a decisive win in Race 2 on the streets of Marrakech last month.
“I’m excited to go racing in the USA and Mid-Ohio, which looks really interesting. I’m carrying a really good feeling from Marrakech, where we were able to win and score big. We will keep pushing for our overall goal of claiming both titles where consistency is key,” said Ma Qing Hua.
While the Mid-Ohio circuit is new to most of the FIA TCR World Tour field, it was not for Thed Björk, who raced there in 2000.
“It’s quite a while since I raced at Mid-Ohio, but I claimed pole position then and have many fond memories from here. The season has had some ups and downs for me, but we have shown a strong pace, and that’s important. I think we are in for a good weekend where the main goal is to claim a solid points haul,” said Thed Björk.
The American race weekend starts with practice and qualifying on Friday, followed by two races on Saturday.
